Today, 21 Gauteng candidates are taking part in the Femtech Support Programme for Women, at The Innovation Hub. This 'idea-generating workshop' is presented by the Maxum Business Incubator, and led by US-based entrepreneur and top trainer for the MultiNational Development of Woman in Technology (MDWIT), Ms Julie Lenzer Kirk.
Kirk is the President and CEO of Path Forward International, author of The ParentPreneur Edge: What Parenting Teaches about Building a Successful Business, and a sought after speaker on topics of entrepreneurship, business management, and leadership.
Entering her fourth year as Lead Instructor for the NSF-funded ACTiVATE Programme at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, she brings valuable insight and experience to Femtech - a programme designed to stimulate the growth of a local pipeline of women in technical entrepreneurial fields.
The objective of the workshop is to promote lateral thinking and innovative solutions to identified industry challenges in hi-tech sectors such as ICT, bioscience, energy, and safety and security. Presentations by representatives from Wits Enterprise, CSIR, ESKOM, Deloitte and Touche, as well as I.cat, are meant to give impetus to creative thinking and potential synergies for the development of hi-tech business concepts. As one candidate puts it: “I could not take notes fast enough.”
The programme runs until Thursday, 19 March 2009. For more information contact Liezel van Rensburg at liezel@jell-o.co.za.
