Relative newcomer to the digital satellite television market TopTV yesterday announced the launch of airtime sales for advertisers on its platform.

The pay TV operator says that, since its inception in May 2010, requests regarding advertising have been numerous and constant.

Following what TopTV deems a “successful testing phase” with various stakeholders, TopTV Airtime Sales is officially ready to accept advertising on eight of its commercial channels. These channels include Top One, Top Movies, Top Movies +2, Top Movies +24, Top Crime, Top History, Top Explore and Top Gospel.

“This pool of channels will grow over the next few months as negotiations with third party channels are concluded,” the company says.

According to TopTV, airtime sales will initially employ a manual booking system, until the airtime sales system gets implemented and officially completed in the first quarter of 2012. “TopTV has also entered into negotiations with Landmark, an airtime sales system used by other major broadcasters in the country.”

VP of airtime sales Jean Meyer says the advertising industry has shown a positive response to the move. “There is interest in the TopTV Airtime Sales offering and key decision-makers at agencies, as well as advertisers, seem to share our vision.”

TopTV recently obtained its first 12-month data release on the All Media and Products Survey (AMPS). AMPS reports TopTV's past seven days' viewership at 134 000 households and at 364 000 viewers.
