The Computer Systems Division of Toshiba Europe has announced the Port'eg'e 3500 Tablet PC, targeted at the mobile workforce.
Toshiba`s wireless Tablet PC, which will be distributed in SA by Rectron, is said to combine the power and functionality of a notebook computer, while adding the simplicity and convenience of pen and paper.
"The Port'eg'e 3500 Series incorporates the intuitive fusion of pen and paper into the notebook experience allowing users to communicate with their notebook in a more natural way," explains Andre Rosseau, head of the Mobile Division at Rectron.
"It extends the boundaries of performance and productivity for today`s mobile workforce," he says.
"For example, the large display screen aids viewing and the daily use of the Tablet PC as a notebook. But it also assists in the transformation of the tablet for handwritten notes."
When in Tablet mode the Port'eg'e 3500 gives users the same experience as if they were holding an A4-sized executive notepad.
Users write directly on the screen with the tablet pen to create drawings, write handwritten notes, annotate documents and send e-mail. Users can then save their handwritten messages as is, or convert them to digital text.
Weighing 1.85kg, the lightweight book-like design features a dual-action swivel hinge to aid in the transformation from notebook to Tablet PC modes.
Toshiba`s Port'eg'e 3500 Series featured integrated Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b), Bluetooth wireless connectivity, a V.90 56Kbps modem and 10/100 networking, allowing users to share information and access Internet connections in more locations, such as hotels, airports, at home or in the field.
The product also includes an Intel Pentium III-M processor, 1.333GHz, Secure Digital (SD) Media, CompactFlash and Type II PC card slot to maximise workforce productivity.
