Marketing manager Richard Bosman of Toshiba spent the day with children from the South African Disabled Golf Association at the recent Lion of Africa Cape Town Open golf tournament, which Toshiba sponsored.

Toshiba South Africa welcomed more than 100 Cape Town children to the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open golf tournament, held at the Royal Cape Golf Club from 22 to 25 November 2012, giving these young golf enthusiasts a unique opportunity to experience the thrill and excitement of an international event at first hand.

"Golf is an incredible game for building confidence, strength and fitness, and it can create wonderful opportunities for young players entering the game," says Richard Bosman, marketing manager of Toshiba. "Many of the children were introduced to us by the South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA), which does amazing work in communities across South Africa, and we leapt at the opportunity to give these children a chance to see some of the world's finest golfers in action."

"SADGA is a non-profit organisation that sets out to encourage every South African with a permanent physical disability to play golf," says Lily Reich, company secretary of SADGA. "This is the first time in many years that the Sunshine Tour has hosted an international event in Cape Town, and we are thrilled to be able to take some of our most promising disabled golfing students, and others from golfing development projects in the city, to the tournament, all thanks to the kindness and generosity of the Toshiba South Africa team."

Toshiba is one of the sponsors of the Cape Town Open, building on its global support of a variety of sporting events. Global sponsorships in the past have included the Rugby World Cup, the Toshiba Classic Golf Tournament in Newport Beach, California, and other events such as triathlons.

"The students that we hosted over the four-day tournament all play golf, and many are showing incredible promise - both for the disabled game and for the regular circuit," says Bosman. "We at Toshiba were thrilled that we could offer this unique experience to a group of young players who show the potential to be the future of the game, building even further on the strong foundations laid by South African golfing greats like Gary Player, Ernie Els and Retief Goosen. Who knows? Perhaps one day when one of these youngsters is raising a trophy in front of the TV cameras, they'll think back to their first tournament experience, here at the Cape Town Open!"
