Tracker's HQ installs monitoring equipment from EDP Communications

Johannesburg, 09 Dec 2009

EDP Communications, a provider and installer of environmental monitoring equipment, today announced that they have installed monitoring equipment in the main data centre of Tracker's headquarters in Darrenwood, Johannesburg, as well as their UPS room, generator and other network rooms.

In addition, EDP Communications is also monitoring a communications room, which is not on Tracker's internal network, for temperature, power failure and door entry via SMS.

“We needed a company that not only understood our specific needs but one that had access to some of the best available products and were able to provide locally designed products, expertise and support,” commented Ashwan Reggie of Tracker.

“We required SMS and e-mail notification of any incidents, together with the automatic capability of escalating any issues should appropriate responses not be forthcoming. EDP Communications was able to provide all this and more, including the relevant Webpage interfaces.”

“Tracker has installed six Room Alerts and one AutoBleep Controller monitoring their data centres and network rooms in Darrenwood, as well as their site in Pretoria,” added Elton du Preez of EDP Communications, “and we have utilised the RARS/EMS monitoring control system from Aizon Systems to provide this required capability.

“The installation at Tracker is a classic example of a situation where the client has become increasingly concerned that their current facilities did not provide the necessary facilities to respond to issues timeously,” concluded Elton du Preez of EDP Communications.

Tracker is a private company jointly owned by FirstRand, VENFIN, a private investment consortium and its empowerment partners, the Mineworkers Investment Company, which owns a 26.5% stake. The Tracker System was developed in the USA by LoJack, where it has been operational since 1986, with the South African operation established in October 1996.
