technology unveiled
Odin technologies, provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions, automation software, and research, has released the industry's first scientific evaluation of passive RFID technology focused on IT asset tracking, according to PR Web.
Through the IT Asset Tracking Benchmark companies are able to better track and secure sensitive and costly IT hardware.
"For years, companies employed labour-intensive and cumbersome bar codes or expensive active RFID solutions to track IT assets. The IT Asset Tracking Benchmark proves there's a way that saves time, improves accuracy, and is cost-effective," says Patrick J Sweeney II, founder of Odin technologies.

FTC to host workshop
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is hosting a workshop on 23 September to discuss emerging RFID applications that includes contactless payment devices, item-level tagging and their implications for consumer protection policy, says RFID Journal.
The Transatlantic RFID Workshop on Consumer Privacy and Data Security will also examine consumer awareness, education initiatives, security and privacy threats and proposed solutions, bringing together industry representatives, government officials and consumer advocates from Europe and the US.
Following the FTC workshop, the Commerce Department, in co-operation with the European Commission, will host a matchmaking event for US and European companies at which new transatlantic RFID partnerships and technical exchanges will be explored.
