Trade smart with DiData solutions

Johannesburg, 28 Feb 2001

When millions of rands worth of financial trades hang in the balance daily, South African financial traders need failsafe financial trading solutions to stay in business.

"The split-second judgements required of traders in today`s global marketplace depend on information from multiple sources - trading , market , news, the , television, and more," says Evan Hodkinson, sales director at Dimension Data Interactive Media.

Realising the critical levels this type of communication plays in the financial industry, Dimension Data has partnered with the best in the world to bring trading solutions, which are two years ahead of the competition, to South Africa.

"For example, we partner with IPC Information Systems, the world`s leading supplier of voice trading systems to the financial community. IPC`s Alliance MX, with Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) capabilities, is the most widely installed voice trading system in the world," says Hodkinson.

"We are soon to release IPC`s IQMX next generation trading system which will transform the traditional dealerboard into an advanced, integrated, voice-data-video tool," he says. Dimension Data will potentially swop out its existing customer base, which includes leading financial institutions, to the new system, when it is available.

Built on a dedicated Ethernet infrastructure, IQMX utilises Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) to facilitate integration of voice, data and video on a single platform.

It will enable traders to have a single connection to a powerful global network, like IXNet, which can deliver integrated data, video and voice to the desktop.

IXNet is a Dimension Data partner providing extranet connectivity for the financial community.

"Unfortunately, due to our current telecommunication`s regulations, we cannot use this network to its full extent - which would be VOIP," says Hodkinson. "Financial institutions like Deutsche Bank, Standard Bank and JP Morgan, are however benefiting from worldwide connectivity on a content (data) level.

"When the telecommunications industry deregulates, financial institutions will be able to maximise the potential of VOIP," he concludes.

Dimension Data Holdings plc is a leading global network services and i-Commerce solutions provider, focused on enabling enterprises, telecommunications service providers and new economy companies to communicate and transact effectively in an e-enabled environment.

Listed on the London Stock Exchange, Dimension Data is ranked in FTSE 100 and operates in over 30 countries on six continents. The Group has achieved a two year compound annual growth rate in US dollars of 57% in revenue and 36% in basic earnings per share over the past two years.
