The first computer-based training centre for traffic officers has been opened at the Boekenhoutkloof Traffic Training College in Tshwane.

Khabisi Mosunkutu, Gauteng MEC for public transport, roads and works, said in officially opening the training centre that the computer-based, self-regulated learning programme had been developed in consultation with the CSIR.

"It is anticipated that when students and instructors are introduced to computer-based training (CBT), the experience will enhance and modernise the learning content and process. This training will form part of the classroom teaching process and will be a valuable aid to instructors in the training and development of students," Mosunkutu said.

"CBT will also increase general computer literacy as all future training and work-related subjects at the college will be computer-based.

"The use of CBT gives Boekenhoutkloof an advantage over other learning institutions, and should result in improved test and examination results as well as better long-term knowledge retention by students. In addition, CBT will improve the college`s reputation for outstanding, state of the art training," he said.
