TransGrid looks to desktop virtualisation
The company released a request for tender looking for a vendor to design, install, configure, test and commission the virtualisation product within 13 weeks of starting. TransGrid will deal with communications infrastructure, server infrastructure and user acceptance.
TransGrid says that the driver behind the project was the desire to reduce the cost of ownership of the desktop environment and on-site support, while increasing the hardware life cycle from three to seven years.
According to CIO Australia, last year TransGrid started a data warehouse redevelopment project and in May inked a $7.2 million deal with Mincom for the supply of enterprise asset management solutions.
So far TransGrid ICT hasn't specified a preferred technology product for the project, but it has the requirement that the solution must work with its Citrix remote access software and Wyse thin client hardware will be used as desktop replacements.
