AbouTravel.co.za, a travel news content site targeting the discerning business traveller, has re-launched its site with the implementation of a new publishing engine developed for the site by Technews, a publisher of technical electronic trade media.
"The main benefit of this new publishing engine is that we can maintain and update the site on an hourly basis, if necessary, with the minimum complement of staff," says managing editor, Geraldine Manson.
"This means that our news can be as up to date as we wish, while still allowing for a wealth of archive material should it be required. Technews has enabled us to run a tighter ship and meet tight deadlines with the least effort. The re-launch also means we have been able to present a new look with several added features," she says.
The site`s additional functionality includes a booking engine back-ended by World Tour Operators (WTO), which guarantees international economy class flight destinations anywhere in the world for less than R4 000.
There is also an "AbouTravel in Africa" search functionality, enabling intrepid travellers to find the perfect bush destination anywhere in Africa. This service is provided by Johannesburg-based Ubuntu Travel.
The travel news site has partnered with Global Choices to offer an upfront rewards-based loyalty programme to members of the AbouTravel.co.za travel club. Global Choices, with its 16 travel partners, offers discounted flights, accommodation and car hire, as well as travel, medical and domestic assistance insurance.
AbouTravel.co.za went live at the beginning of April. It provides content to a growing number of prime travel sites including Hello SA and WTO. The site will soon provide travel news content on the VEZA CD-ROM which was funded mainly by the CSIR and which is sold internationally. It is expected that more than one million of these SA travel guides will be sold around the world.
