Trend Micro announces support for Network Access Protection technology from MS

Johannesburg, 21 Jul 2004

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Trend security software, today announced the latter's support of Network Access Protection (NAP) technology from Microsoft, a comprehensive infrastructure that allows system administrators to monitor and control machine access to corporate networks.

As part of this initiative, Trend Micro will enhance Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition to provide an added security measure to help keep corporate networks free of viruses and other malware.

In order to better protect themselves from viruses or malicious worm programs like 'Netsky', which are designed to spread through networks, organisations must be more vigilant than ever about ensuring the latest security measures are employed by all clients utilising the network.

Network Access Protection technology from Microsoft is an extensible, standards-based architecture that will serve as a foundation for the development of new and complementary applications to decrease the risk of introduction of viruses and malware through computers linking into the corporate network.

"Without the continued support of leading security industry providers, like Trend Micro, the extension of the open architecture to create a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for the Windows Server System platform would not be possible," said Steve Anderson, director in the Windows Server Group at Microsoft Corp. "This collaborative effort combines years of expertise into one solution."

Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition is an integral part of Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy, which helps customers manage the impact of mixed threats at various areas of the network, throughout the lifecycle of a virus or other malware outbreak. OfficeScan Corporate Edition's added support of Network Access Protection technology from Microsoft furthers Trend Micro's vision of helping customers towards this end.

"Trend Micro strongly supports the efforts from Microsoft to make security for the Windows Server System platform an integral part of a larger security strategy," added Eva Chen, CTO and co-founder of Trend Micro. "By working closely with companies like Microsoft, we can help provide our customers with intelligent tools to protect their networks and enforce security policies across their organisations."

The Network Access Protection-compliant version of Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition is scheduled for availability in 2005.
