SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Trend Micro security software, today announced the expansion of its award-winning Trend Micro Network VirusWall line of outbreak prevention appliances with the introduction of Trend Micro Network VirusWall 2500 and 300.
These additions are designed to provide customers with greater flexibility in enforcing network security policies across global, distributed enterprise environments or to single, mission-critical devices, in order to help stop the damaging effects of network worms.
Network worms, self-executing malicious code that exploits system vulnerabilities and use network channels to spread (without requiring end-users to open a file attachment), have become growing threats to productivity and business continuity in the past year.
Threats like 'Nachi' and 'Sasser' were even known to disrupt automated teller machines and self-service kiosks from leading banks and airlines. To date, Trend Micro estimates there are over 1 000 known network worms, variants and exploits.
Introduced in early 2004, Trend Micro Network VirusWall 1200 allows security administrators to block network worms and identify and isolate vulnerable network segments and non-compliant networked devices to help eliminate internal propagation points for outbreaks.
"The success of Network VirusWall shows how the market has embraced this product as a new standard of security policy enforcement and ultimately as a tool to help ensure customers keep their networks and businesses running," commented Eva Chen, Chief Technology Officer for Trend Micro, Inc. "The technology behind Network VirusWall will continue to influence the standards of outbreak management from within the network itself."
Network VirusWall 2500 builds upon Network VirusWall 1200 by enabling IT security administrators to secure multiple network segments and mission-critical application servers through a single appliance, offering high availability and redundancy to ensure minimal business disruption. Gigabit Ethernet support provides IT security administrators with the flexibility to protect today's newer, high-bandwidth network infrastructures. Built for higher throughput and performance, Network VirusWall 2500 is ideal for large, complex organisations, capable of supporting thousands of concurrent users through a single appliance device.
"Lexmark successfully used Network VirusWall to isolate vulnerable systems and contain outbreaks from network worm attacks," added Frederic Tosques, Head of Security Systems, Lexmark EMEA. "I have deployed both the 1200 and 2500 in my network to address the security problems that I cannot solve with other competitive solutions and with Trend Micro Control Manager, I can easily manage everything from a centralised console."
Network VirusWall 300 is designed to help IT security administrators responsible for protecting mission-critical devices that may not easily be protected using traditional software or server-based anti-virus solutions, such as bank ATMs or self-service kiosks. Blocking unauthorised access to such devices, Network VirusWall 300 creates a two-way security barrier that protects customer-facing service machines from becoming launching points of infection to both the internal and the external networks to which they are connected.
