SecureData Security, part of JSE-listed SecureData Holdings, the sole sub-Saharan distributor for Trend Micro, today announced that following its success in the corporate market and the brand awareness that has been created, it is now extending its reach into the retail market.
SecureData has finalised an exclusive agreement with Makro that runs until the end of July 2010, whereby the latter will be selling the Trend Micro Internet Security PRO and Trend Micro Internet Security products through its retail outlets.
“Trend Micro is already number one and number two in the Japanese and US retail markets respectively, with its security products; and with Absa also offering its users this software, we believe the time is now right to for us to offer these products directly to the SME and consumer markets,” commented Lee Bristow, Product Manager at SecureData for Trend Micro. “We will be extending the retail offering to other chains in the near future.”
Both the Trend Micro product suites contain the following:
* Anti-virus software
* Anti-rootkit software
* Anti-spam software
* Anti-spyware software
* Firewall software
* Comprehensive parental controls, eg, creating safe profiles so that children are not exposed to unsavoury elements of the Internet
* Web site authentication
* Identity protection
The Trend Micro Internet Security PRO suite also contains facilities to block files in the case of a laptop being stolen, the protection of personal information from identity theft, automatic warnings against suspicious links in instant messaging and e-mail, security protection for smartphones and a PC clean-up capability for faster performance.
“For instance, Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, its anti-malware product and part of the Trend Micro Internet Security PRO package, offers real-time security against all types of threats, whether these are from malicious files, spam, phishing, and Web threats, to denial of service attacks, Web vulnerabilities or even data loss,” concluded Bristow.
“Combinations of activities are correlated by the software to determine if they are malicious. A single activity of a Web threat may appear harmless, but when several activities are detected together, they may represent a malicious result. Trend Micro Smart Protection Network already protects product users from this particular threat by preventing access to the phishing site via its Web reputation service.”
