Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition offers broader security protection, desktop policy enforcement

Johannesburg, 22 Jun 2004

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Trend security software, today announced the introduction of the latest version of Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition, v6.5, which integrates Trend Micro's award-winning corporate desktop virus protection with other key security technologies to deliver broad protection to the enterprise desktop under a single management console.

E-mail, Internet access and enhanced mobility in computing have allowed corporate desktops to become tools for greater business productivity, but have also made them prime targets for today's malicious code attacks. Efforts to coordinate multiple, disparate solutions to thwart such attacks may prove difficult to integrate and manage, and cannot ensure all clients are consistently protected. A single non-compliant desktop could open the corporate gateway to attack.

Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition v6.5 is an integrated client/server security solution that is designed to simplify the challenge of securing network clients by focusing on the concerns that have the greatest potential for loss or disruption for businesses today - virus outbreaks, intruders/hackers, unwanted or unproductive Internet materials, and non-compliant systems.

Through a flexible and centralised management console, IT administrators can manage a broad range of security tasks for enterprise clients according to departments, work groups, or IP range. The integrated enterprise client firewall in Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition v6.5 monitors inbound and outbound communications between the client and suspicious Web sites, and is designed to block their unauthorised attempts to access corporate desktops. Detection for unwanted spyware, adware, dialer, and hacking/cracking or password stealing applications helps maintain privacy and productivity in the workplace. Network traffic passing between client machines is also monitored for suspicious behaviour, and data packets can be scanned to mitigate the potential for outbreaks within a corporate network.

"OfficeScan 6.5 had the best working firewall we have ever seen in a desktop security system. Hotfix installations were not required, and default settings were already useable and our systems were safe," said Norman Coker, System Administrator for igus, an international provider of plastic bearings and other components, committed to increasing the longevity of machines worldwide. "In no less than three hours we installed the new OfficeScan including the whole roll-out."

"In today's complex world of security threats, the protection provided by the high performance Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition 6.5 product is comprehensive and powerful," commented George Proussalis, Partner of The iSGroup. "OfficeScan encompasses enterprise-class technologies, including robust scalability requirements with centralised management, policies for easy deployment, updates, and status indicators for our enterprise client environment. We find it to be an important release that eases the security burden in challenging times."

Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition v6.5 will also include the Cisco Trust Agent (CTA), the Cisco technology delivered through the Cisco Network Admission Control (NAC) program, and help customers enforce anti-virus security policies. It will also help ensure that only clients with the latest anti-virus updates can connect to the network. As part of a comprehensive network security program, Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition and technology available through the Cisco NAC program can be used in conjunction with other Trend Micro solutions and services to enhance outbreak prevention and management. Multiple Trend Micro products and outbreak-related services, like Outbreak Prevention Services and Damage Cleanup Services can be managed alongside Trend Micro OfficeScan through Trend Micro Control Manager 3.0.
