SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Trend security software, today announced that the latter's latest version of Trend Micro PortalProtect, version 1.5, offers support for Microsoft SharePoint products and technologies. The protection from Trend Micro PortalProtect v1.5 is part of Trend Micro's ongoing support for the Microsoft messaging and collaboration environment.
Trend Micro PortalProtect v1.5 is designed to scan and clean viruses and network worms in SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) 2003's Document Store. In addition to the extensive security provisions built into SPS 2003, PortalProtect's file blocking capability temporarily blocks all file types identified as potential threats. PortalProtect v1.5 also supports real-time manual and scheduled scans of new Microsoft SQL Server databases in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 through Microsoft's Virus Scan interface for added security of shared organisational information resources.
"SharePoint products and technologies provide customers with the ability to easily create and manage their own content-rich SharePoint sites, connecting users to the data they need while enabling collaboration across the enterprise," said Kirk Koenigsbauer, General Manager, IW Product Management at Microsoft Corp. "We're delighted to see development efforts from Trend Micro make that investment pay off."
SharePoint Portal Server 2003 integrates information from various systems into one system and facilitates end-to-end collaboration through data aggregation, organisation and searching. Windows SharePoint Services provide sites for team collaboration, while SharePoint Portal Server 2003 connects these sites, people and business processes - facilitating knowledge sharing and smart organisations.
"Trend Micro has been working closely with Microsoft, our channel partners and customers to help ensure we provide the most comprehensive security solution for Microsoft Enterprise Information Portal products and services," added Richard Ku, Director of Product Management at Trend Micro. "This new security solution for SharePoint products and technologies provides a Windows 2003 Certified security product for Microsoft Exchange 2003, and our future plans to support Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003. Trend Micro will have a complete enterprise security solution for the Microsoft messaging and collaboration environment to help create a virus-free environment for the exchange of information across organisations, people and sites."
