Trend Micro ServerProtect offers anti-virus protection for Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Johannesburg, 08 May 2003

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Trend security software, today announced that Trend MicroServerProtect, the company's anti-virus solution for file and application servers, for Microsoft's new Windows Server 2003 enterprise operating platform is now available.

With this announcement, Trend Micro is able to offer anti-virus protection for the most comprehensive set of Microsoft platforms and applications, in line with the company's best-of-breed partnership strategy to bring customers flexible, integrated security solutions. Also, enterprises adopting the Windows Server 2003 platform can soon begin to benefit from additional outbreak prevention and cleanup services managed through Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy.

Windows Server 2003 is Microsoft's latest, multi-purpose operating system with superior ease of deployment and manageability for file and print servers, Web servers and Web application servers that creates a highly productive infrastructure to help make networks a strategic asset for an organisation.

"Customers expect the Trustworthy Computing initiative to span the industry," commented Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft's Security Business Unit. "Trend Micro's early support for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 helps deliver solutions that give our mutual customers more complete defences against attack. We look forward to working with Trend Micro to not only secure the desktop, messaging server and gateway, but on future issues of security that affect our joint customers."

With the use of ServerProtect version 5.56, Windows Server 2003 customers will have the advantage of managing the impact of mixed-threat attacks through services offered as part of Enterprise Protection Strategy. Specifically, customers would be able to utilise port-blocking, deny-write and shared folder-blocking capabilities, or initiate server cleanup templates as part of the coordinated services designed to help minimise time costs and other damages during a malicious code attack.

"For several years, Trend Micro has shown its commitment to the Microsoft partnership and technologies by consistently working closely with Microsoft to offer solutions for the server-based anti-virus software market," added Bob Ellsworth, Director of Windows Server Product Management Group at Microsoft. "Support of Microsoft platforms through such initiatives as Enterprise Protection Strategy by Trend Micro offers an added level of security management to mutual customers."

ServerProtect version 5.56 will be tested for Windows Server 2003 certification, administered by Veritest, the exclusive provider of third-party independent testing for the Microsoft Certified for Windows logo program. Certification means customers can be confident that ServerProtect meets the interoperability, reliability and compatibility specifications set forth by Microsoft.

"ServerProtect's interoperability with the newly announced Windows Server 2003 OS demonstrates our continued best-of- breed focus on offering our customers the flexibility of choice. Trend Micro's pursuit of certification also reassures customers that whatever Microsoft platform they chose, we have already gone through the process to ensure they are getting a highly qualified security solution," added David Rowe, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at Trend Micro.

Trend Micro offers the most comprehensive set of products for Microsoft's variety of platforms and applications, including such products as InterScan VirusWall for Windows NT Server 4.0 - based Internet gateway protection; ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange and Exchange 2000 for mail server protection; OfficeScan Corporate Edition for Windows 98/Me/XP/2000-based clients and mobile desktops; and versions of ServerProtect for Windows NT, Windows 2000, and SharePoint Portal Server. Trend Micro products for the mail server and the SMTP gateway are also undergoing certification for Server 2003 to provide proven security for enterprise messaging environments.
