Trend Micro ships latest version of Notes virus protection solution, ScanMail Version 2.5 for Lotus Notes

Johannesburg, 22 Jan 2001

SecureData, the exclusive sub-Saharan distributors of Trend Micro Inc, the leading provider of enterprise antivirus for the gateway and the only Lotus Premium Business Partner to provide a cross-platform virus scanning solution, today announced shipment of the latest version of its award-winning Lotus Notes virus . ScanMail Version 2.5 for Lotus Notes, first available for Windows NT, is a major performance upgrade, adding significantly to the virus scanning and cleaning, message handling and integration features of this market-leading Notes solution.

ScanMail for Lotus Notes provides the only antivirus support for Lotus Domino on Windows NT, AS/400 and S/390 IBM platforms, AIX, and Sun Solaris platforms. Using real-time email virus-scanning features, viruses can be detected and cleaned from incoming messages before they have a chance to infect the desktop. To optimize server performance, ScanMail for Lotus Notes checks mail at the router before copies are made. Modified data can be scanned within the database during the replication stage, and on-demand scanning is provided to clean any existing database infections.

"Tremd are dedicated to working closely with IBM and its channel partners to provide tightly integrated, world-class protection for enterprises using Lotus Notes," said Rolf Rennemo, International Product Manager for Trend Micro. "Lotus Notes users choose ScanMail because it supports a wide range of platforms and offers one of the most reliable, easy-to-use, scalable, high performance virus protection products for the enterprise market today."

Enhancements in ScanMail 2.5 for Lotus Notes include:

  • Policy-based configuration that brings ScanMail 2.5 for Lotus Notes into Trend Micro's philosophy of a rule-based structure.

  • Improved management by embedding ScanMail into the Lotus Domino R5 Administration Console. In addition, integration of ScanMail for Notes into Trend Micro's cross platform central management console, the Trend Virus Control System (Trend VCS(tm)), ensures seamless Enterprise antivirus administration.

  • Option to strip macros from Office documents to avert possible infection from macro viruses.

  • Attachment blocking by either file name extension or file type, enabling administrators to easily block either the entire email or just the email attachment.

  • Enhanced mail management features that enable configuration of filter rules for in- and outbound email, providing delay, blocking and prioritization of domain groups, server groups and users.

  • Emergency outbreak mail delay to allow emails to be held in a queue until filtering procedures or pattern/engine updates have been completed. This removes the need for the mail server to be shut down in case of a virus outbreak.
