Trend Micro ships newest InterScan Web Security Suite

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Trend Micro security software, today announced the availability of Trend Micro InterScan Web Security Suite 2.5.

It is the newest edition of the company's award-winning gateway security solution designed to block spyware and greyware, viruses, phishing attacks, and other malware entering corporate networks via the Internet gateway.

InterScan Web Security Suite 2.5 represents a key component of Trend Micro's multi-layered integrated approach to protecting customers from various Internet-based threats throughout the business network environment.

This highly scalable and comprehensive gateway security solution protects corporate networks throughout the lifecycle of an outbreak or malware attack (outbreaks are specific to viruses, not spyware or phishing), and provides IT security administrators with enhanced flexibility and granularity in policy management across the enterprise.

The latest version of InterScan Web Security Suite incorporates several new technologies in the battle against spyware. In addition to blocking spyware from entering the network at the gateway, InterScan Web Security Suite can initiate a cleanup of impacted clients to eradicate any resident spyware; this is done through the optional Damage Cleanup Services, which helps to automate the cleanup of spyware and the restoration of any server or desktop infected by spyware, whether any anti-virus program is installed on them or not.

InterScan Web Security Suite also blocks outbound 'phone home' communications at the Internet gateway to protect unsuspecting users from phishing attacks, in which private information is sent to a false Web site, and can be used to protect against spyware programs that attempt to collect information from an infected system and send it back to the attacker.

An optional module to detect malicious mobile code, in the form of ActiveX and Java applets hidden in Web pages, not only protects against unwanted self-installing spyware packages, but also protects against 'zero-day' mobile code not yet referenced in the spyware scanners database. The optional URL filtering module filters out inappropriate Web content through an extensive database that employs a dynamic rating technology to classify requests not already in the database, in real-time, as users browse.
