The award is based on Frost & Sullivan's annual evaluation survey of key ant-ivirus industry players, entitled The World Anti-virus Market. The award is presented to the company whose competitive strategy has yielded significant gains in market share during the research period.
Trend Micro was named this year's recipient of the award based on its progress in 2004 in terms of revenue, market share gained, profitability, strategic alliances, customer service and support, and for general market strength.

In order to select the award recipient, Frost & Sullivan analysts quantify several market factors for each market participant according to predetermined criteria such as percent growth in revenue, degree of strategy innovation, successful alliances, mind share growth and penetration rate of new markets.

The research process combines information from interviews with vendors' senior management, end-user and channel partner surveys, and feedback from IT and security managers from leading companies across various industries including government, finance, healthcare and telecommunications.
