Trinity Telecomms announces availability of Sierra Wireless line of AirLink 3G routers and mobile gateways

Johannesburg, 08 Oct 2009

Trinity Telecomms has announced that the AirLink range of intelligent 3G M2M routers and mobile gateways from Sierra Wireless, a leading global supplier of modems and software for mobile broadband networks, is now available to the South Africa market. Sierra Wireless was instrumental in developing some of the first wireless data devices and remains committed to developing new, innovative products and software for emerging network technologies.

William Hardie, Trinity Telecomms joint MD, comments: “The AirLink range complements our existing wireless solutions offering by including both entry-level GPRS gateways for industrial M2M applications, as well as high-end HSUPA communications devices for mission-critical security and emergency service use.”

“The quality of the AirLink range has been proven around the world and it is particularly well suited to essential services and emergency management applications,” says Hardie. “The South African market will now be able to benefit from this proven 3G technology.”

The AirLink product line is a set of intelligent rugged and industrial 3G devices for mobile data and M2M applications. They are widely used for mobile broadband applications in sectors such as police and emergency services, critical infrastructure monitoring and security surveillance deployments, as well as in remote monitoring applications like energy management and automation.

All Sierra Wireless AirLink devices are powered by ALEOS, the sophisticated embedded intelligence platform that has continually evolved over 15 years of deployments in real-world solutions, including numerous mission-critical applications. ALEOS ensures a consistent, reliable connection between remotely deployed or mobile assets and the enterprise, leveraging mobile wireless networks. Coupled with the ACEware suite of remote management, configuration and control tools and applications, the AirLink product line provides the long term reliability and low total cost of ownership required for today's mission-critical applications.

The Sierra Wireless AirLink product line consists of three core product families:

* M2M gateways - This includes the AirLink Raven line of rugged terminals, featuring GPRS/HSUPA devices, ideal for automation and control in the M2M environment.
* In-vehicle gateways and routers - These include the AirLink PinPoint and MP lines of rugged mobile devices, specifically designed for mobile data, public safety and field services, featuring HSUPA communications and GPS functionality. Each device is also designed to meet stringent requirements for extreme temperatures, moisture, and high-shock environments.
* Commercial grade routers - These include the AirLink Helix line, designed for 3G WAN connectivity with optional WiFi, an ideal solution for wireless WAN applications such as field connectivity, business continuity and surveillance.

Jim Lahey, Vice-President, EMEA Operator and Enterprise Sales, comments: “We are pleased to be collaborating with Trinity Telecomms for the distribution and support of the AirLink product line. Together, Sierra Wireless and Trinity Telecomms can provide a comprehensive product offering and strong locally based support for customers who are looking to leverage mobile broadband for a wide range of applications.”

Says Hardie: “The distribution agreement is in alignment with Trinity's remote device management strategy, based on its Smart M2M platform - a universal Web-based remote device monitoring and control platform. The new 3G AirLink devices are all able to connect to the Trinity Smart M2M platform, to enable clients to benefit from remote device monitoring, control and maintenance, including software 'downloads over the air'. Our remote management solution eliminates the need for on-site support in most instances, ultimately lowering cost of ownership of the AirLink and other devices.”

“The geographical spread of many local companies, as well as the remote nature of many of our industries, makes 3G networks more attractive than land line options due to lack of fixed-line broadband infrastructure in some places, long delays and costs associated with infrastructure installation, reduced cost of ownership through remote monitoring and control, and the increased flexibility and mobility offered by 3G devices.”
