A new business strategy from Trispen Technologies, a solutions provider to the virtual private network (VPN) and remote access market, is expected to make VPN functionality more readily available to service providers and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The rental business model applies to Trispen`s IP-Granite products, and includes support and maintenance. Six- and 12-month contracts are available for both software and hardware products via Trispen`s authorised resellers.
IP-Granite is a suite of IPSec-based products that allow customers to build secure VPNs. Software products provide peer-to-peer and host-to-gateway communication security suitable for site-to-site VPNs and secure remote access.
A VPN appliance that provides a non-intrusive solution to secure existing networks is also available.
"This rental pricing model is especially attractive to service providers who want to match their expenses with their revenue streams," says Francois Smit, marketing manager at Trispen Technologies. Application service providers, Internet service providers and VPN service providers will be able to combine their offerings with the security that IP-Granite offers to provide additional value to their customers.
"VPN technology is increasingly used to provide non-Web application access and back-end management capabilities."
Smit notes it is also ideal for SMEs looking for an affordable way of securing their business communications. Smaller companies, which typically cannot justify dedicated wide area networks, can now utilise the Internet to communicate with business associates or branch offices in a secure fashion. These companies can also extend their network via a VPN to employees working from home.
