Twitter has updated its embedded tweet grid, giving Web site owners more freedom to curate what appears on their page.

On Thursday, social network Twitter will roll out improvements to its embedded timelines. The timelines are seen as a separate sidebar on Web sites other than Twitter.

"On 3 March, we'll update the embedded timeline to better showcase the stories you tell with tweets. The new timeline features a clean, modern design which showcases expanded photos, videos, GIFs, and more. It's fully responsive, and it includes support for several new media types, including polls," said Jacob Harding, senior software engineer, in a blog post.

The new embedded timeline will not feature a 'hide media' option, so all tweets with media will be expanded by default.

"This reduces the number of clicks between your users and your content, and makes it easier for your audience to engage with the tweets you embed," says Harding.

All existing embedded timelines will be automatically upgraded, with sizing and customisation preferences staying the same.
