UCS has told shareholders that COO Neil Michelson has changed roles within the company. Effective immediately, Michelson becomes group commercial director.

Group CEO John Bright says the move is directly related to the restructuring announced at its annual results last month.

"We moved around the companies from a software division and a solutions and services division to three groups: retail solutions, infrastructure and investments. In the old structure, Michelson made sure the two divisions stayed in synch and dealt with any competitive issues. In the new environment, this position isn`t needed any more," reveals Bright.

However, the company is still keen to hold onto Michelson, whom Bright calls its "best negotiator".

"Michelson is without doubt the best person we have on board to take talks with customers, suppliers or acquisitions forward. The new role allows him to use that talent," he says.

On Wednesday, UCS revealed Michelson, Bright and CFO Dean Sparrow had made purchases of UCS shares on the open market. Both Bright and Michelson spent R1.95 million on 475 000 shares each. Sparrow bought 250 000 shares for R1 million.
