UK companies need DR

A survey carried out by BT Global Services found that UK businesses rely more on the resilience of their staff, rather than detailed business continuity plan, states ITProPortal.

The research, carried out among employees of UK PLCs and public sector organisations, suggests that bosses are still failing to grasp the importance of having a properly tuned business continuity plan.

Instead, they rely on team spirit to save their businesses in a time of crisis. Nearly 75% of workers surveyed believed UK organisation rely on the dedication of their staff to help them overcome the aftermath of a disaster.

Ciena creates locating service

According to Business Wire, today's enterprises must ensure business continuity and disaster recovery, expedite and enhance services, and enable closer collaboration between geographically-dispersed locations, all while reducing total cost of network ownership.

These concerns have created new challenges for IT departments looking for resilient and flexible networks to support critical process improvements and new bandwidth-intensive applications such as virtualisation, LAN extension and replication.

In partnership with NEF, Ciena created a comprehensive service to enable enterprises to cost-effectively address these evolving network demands by reducing the fibre discovery and pricing lead times inherent in locating optimal fibre connectivity solutions.

Exinda introduces the 7800

Exinda Networks, a provider of wide area network (WAN) optimisation solutions, introduced its new Exinda 7800 appliance, a solution that addresses poor application performance between data centre and branch offices, says AME Info.

The Exinda 7800 helps companies reduce file transfer times for server consolidation, disaster recovery planning and data storage initiatives.

It helps companies gain the maximum benefit from their investment in high-speed WAN links and eliminates the need for expensive upgrades.
