UK library adopts self-service
service technology marks the start of a new chapter for another library in the UK, writes Sleaford Standard.
Metheringham is the latest library to jump on to the self-service bandwagon. This follows the success of similar projects at larger libraries, including Sleaford.
Coun Eddy Poll, executive member for Cultural Services, says self-service technology will make it quicker and easier to borrow and return books and free up staff so they can spend more time with customers.
“People will also benefit from new improved free Internet access computers, and some new library book stock.”
According to the BBC, self-service machines to check books in and out are also to be installed at all libraries in Wiltshire.
The county council said the move would cost £500 000 to install and would save the authority £300 000 a year. The installation of the new machines will allow the authority to make “overall savings while maintaining our library services.”
