"With the success Ukukhanya is having as sole distributor of Husky ruggedised handheld computer systems in SA and the high level of technical support they provide, it was an obvious decision to appoint the company as an advanced service centre for the African market. Countries which will be targeted first include Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia and Zambia," said Husky international sales manager John Froggatt.
Ukukhanya`s main focus will be Husky`s latest release, the Husky Field Explorer 21, the first ruggedised H/PC based on Windows CE. It integrates wireless mobile phone, eMail and Internet systems.
"The partnership of Microsoft`s CE operating system will solve a great IT problem: how to take the performance and facilities of near risk free desk-top computing to the hazard-rich environment of true outdoors," he explained.
Ukukhanya Mobile Technologies MD Jeff Carel says applications include rugged field services, order entry, asset management, parcel tracking, inventory control, meter reading and emergency services.
Features include transflective colour screen technology visible in all light conditions, ideal for sunny Africa. It also includes storm, drop and collision protection, extreme temperature protection, enhanced power management for extended field operation without battery charging and emergency data recovery.
A range of accessories such as a car charger and infrared com port are available.
