The Ulead DVD Runtime Player, a new option that allows users to include a DVD software player on discs they burn with Ulead video software, turns a PC into an instant movie theatre.
"Runtime Player lets anyone with a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM view a DVD, VCD or SVCD on their computer without any requirement for other playback software or hardware," says Lisa Jackson, divisional manager responsible for Ulead products at JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, the sole South African distributor.
Ulead is a leading developer of image editing, video editing and Web graphics software and has added PC playback capability to its repertoire of movie-making solutions with the introduction of the new DVD Runtime Player.
"The player option is now featured in Ulead VideoStudio 6 SE DVD, an OEM version of Ulead's best-selling consumer video-editing solution," adds Jackson. "Ulead also intends introducing the player to its other DVD- and video-related software products, among which are award-winning solutions such as Ulead MediaStudio Pro, Ulead DVD Workshop, Ulead DVD PictureShow, and Ulead DVD MovieFactory."
Jackson believes OEM customers will appreciate the value that the DVD Runtime Player adds to the software Ulead provides. "People will enjoy being able to easily share the DVDs and VCDs they create, in addition to high-quality playback."
Users of Ulead's video editing and DVD/VCD solutions can choose to embed the Runtime Player in discs during the burn process. The program automatically starts as soon as a player-embedded disc is inserted into a PC computer's CD- or DVD-ROM drive. The player even allows a miniDVD-formatted disc (a miniDVD is DVD-Video recorded on a CD-R or CD-RW disc) to be played on a computer with an ordinary CD drive.
Features of DVD Runtime Player include seamless integration with all Ulead products and an easy-to-use interface that resembles that of a home DVD player, with arrows for DVD control, and a number pad for VCD/SVCD navigation.
Importantly, the Ulead DVD Runtime Player's small file size will take up only a minimum amount of space on VCDs or DVDs.
"The Runtime Player is easily personalised as the skins on the user interface can be quickly changed," says Jackson. "There is also no need for other MPEG decoders, so Ulead DVD Runtime Player is an all-in-one solution."
