Software supplier Ultimate Connection, part of the JSE-listed UCS Group, has signed a partnership agreement that will see NCR Corporation market and sell its retail point-of-sale software solution into the UK.
The company says the agreement is part of its plan to expand offshore.
In terms of the agreement NCR becomes a value-added reseller (VAR) for the ActiveRetail application suite.
While Ultimate Connection provides the core software and back-up support to NCR`s professional services, NCR is to supply a number of professional services, including solution design, solution development, project management, implementation, hardware and software support and training.
"This signals our intention to become a serious player in the UK market and, from there, we intend - when the time is right - to spread out into the European market at large," says Ultimate Connection MD Neels van Tonder.
"We selected NCR as a VAR to help provide the scale to be able to address regional and global customers with the ActiveRetail application more easily."
One of the reasons NCR selected ActiveRetail is because Ultimate Connection decided to develop a new solution based on Microsoft technology to address the overall needs of the retail market sector.
Dave Kuhn, NCR Retail Solutions Group VP, UK and Ireland, says NCR works closely with Microsoft on a worldwide basis. The ActiveRetail application suite recently won a Microsoft Retail Application Developers` Award as the best general merchandise and specialty store software application in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
"This international recognition will give us additional pedigree as we enter the UK market with NCR," says Van Tonder. "The timing is really perfect and we believe this award will enable us to quick-start our offshore efforts.
"While we will look at setting up a physical presence in the UK at a later stage - once this is required - we will first leverage off NCR remotely, and vice versa."
