Multimedia Warehouse, a division of Siltek Distribution Dynamics, has announced ATI Technologies' newest high-performance 3D accelerator, the Rage Fury MAXX - also is the first commercial graphics card to offer 64MB memory, 32MB more than other cards in its class.
"ATI's Multiple Asics (MAXX ) technology uses dual RAGE 128 Pro processors and 64 MB of memory on a single board to deliver a fill rate of 500 Megapixels/second of 3D performance," says Jaco Laubscher, product manager at Multimedia Warehouse. "This is key to accelerating the latest, highly textured games and, coupled with a complete set of features for Direct X and OpenGL APIs, the RAGE Fury MAXX is destined to become the board of choice for the power-hungry gamer."
Ultra-high resolution 32-bit colour acceleration is achieved with minimal performance degradation. "Running at these resolutions in true colour generates an improved level of visual quality and gameplay. First person shooter games will benefit as the field of view will be expanded and the level of background detail will improve," says Laubscher.
MAXX technique achieves maximum efficiency by having each graphics chip render alternate frames, cutting the rendering load in half. With the two-chip setup, one chip renders even frames only, while the other renders odd frames. Each chip performs triangle setup for its own frame without having to wait for the other chip.
"Since the complexity of a scene tends to vary only slightly from frame to frame (unlike the complexity of different parts of each frame, which can vary widely), the load between the graphics chips tends to stay well balanced. Also, because each chip has its own dedicated frame buffer space in local graphics memory, the final image is buffered to prevent any tearing, discontinuity, or other artifacts," he concludes.
