UN tech overhaul a blunder
A $286.6 million computer and software system upgrade for the United Nations (UN), is already behind schedule, and millions of dollars over budget, states Fox News.
The project, described as the "cornerstone of a United Nations-wide effort to bring groundbreaking reform" to the management of the UN Secretariat, is already about three to four months behind schedule, and is headed to be tens of millions of dollars over budget, less than a year and a half after being approved.
Those tidings are contained in a 53-page draft report on the project obtained by Fox News, which was prepared on behalf of a steering committee of top UN bureaucrats overseeing the IT overhaul.
Rwandan e-health initiative unveiled
The government of Rwanda, through the Ministry of Health, has unveiled a $32 million plan to enhance e-health through ICT, according to allAfrica.com.
The initiative will be financed by several donors including the Rockefeller Foundation, which has so far pledged $1.5 million.
"If we have to witness some gains, it is essential that proven innovations in information technology be adopted and similar improvements in effectiveness, efficiency and productivity be achieved in the health sector," the coordinator of e-health at the Health Ministry, Richard Gakuba says.
Lavasa to become an e-city
Lavasa and Wipro are partnering to plan, implement and manage ICT services across Lavasa city in India, reports ChannelTimes.
Wipro will support the city in the areas of city management system and services, e-governance, ICT infrastructure and value-added services, including providing intelligent home solutions and digital lifestyle.
The ICT services will include voice-video-data services to various businesses operating out of Lavasa city.
