Even though the concept of an RSS feed have been around for, well if not decades, at least a good couple of years, there is still a basic misunderstanding of its value and use.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication... or Rich Site Summary or Real-Time Simple Syndication. The fact is that all of these names really mean the same thing - it is a method to disseminate information across the Internet on a real time basis.

There are two sides to RSS - the feeds themselves, and the consumers of the feed. Feeds are created by websites that are updated regularly, for example news sites, however, blogs are also excellent examples of feed creators since blogs are updated regularly.

Technically RSS feeds are published in XML format, which is why you would need a special tool, called an RSS reader, to read the RSS feed and present it to you in humanly readable format.

RSS feeds are used mostly to keep abreast of the latest developments in the industry. If you have a couple of websites that you visit on a regular basis since they always have up to date content, you can subscribe to their RSS feeds. Every time that they make an update to their site, the latest update will be fed into the RSS feed and will automatically appear in your RSS reader.

If the idea of installing and using an RSS reader sounds too technologically complex, there are options available to have the RSS feed sent directly to your email inbox.

Tailormade4you builds Websites that are RSS ready and produce RSS feeds automatically. The value of RSS feeds in today's Internet world cannot be stressed enough, and it is an essential tool to catapult your business into the world of social media and enable you to communicate in a much more direct fashion with potential customers.
