Underwriters Laboratories completes independent witness testing of SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED X10D solution

SYSTIMAX Solutions, the worldwide leader in structured connectivity solutions and services for organisations, has announced that independent and extensive witness tests have confirmed the Alien Crosstalk performance of its SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED X10D Solution, which is designed to support speeds up to 10Gbps.

The tests were witnessed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc (UL), an independent, not-for-profit product safety certification organisation. In this case, Alien Crosstalk data was taken at the SYSTIMAX Labs facility while UL personnel monitored the entire process.

According to UL guidelines, only equipment that has been certified as being properly calibrated can be used to collect data. The test procedures and the test results are then compared against appropriate standards to determine compliance.

UL confirmed that the SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED X10D Solution complied with the Alien Crosstalk requirements as stated in the SYSTIMAX Performance documentation. UL witnessed testing of the GigaSPEED X10D Solution to the draft Augmented Category 6 and New Class E requirements in the draft 1.4b TIA SP-3-4426-AD10 and Amendment 1 ISO/IEC 11801:2002 Cabling Standards Documents, respectively.

The Alien Crosstalk performance, which is crucial to successful 10Gbps transmission, was tested for the complete channel across the entire swept frequency. It was tested in a stringent 6-around-1 configuration that is representative of worst-case installation conditions. In addition, the connecting hardware and cable samples used for this investigation were randomly selected from our distribution partners."

At the end of 2004, SYSTIMAX Solutions launched its complete, end-to-end UTP cabling technology capable of supporting 10Gbps. It believes the GigaSPEED X10D Solution is the only 10Gbps UTP solution to achieve this level of performance and is delighted that UL has witnessed this. SYSTIMAX Labs has developed unique proprietary design tools to quantify and predict phenomena in the cabling channel that may not be detected with traditional testing technology. It is this capability that gives SYSTIMAX Solutions confidence in claiming compliance to the proposed new standards. The UL testing confirms this confidence.

The test configuration consisted of a set of "6-around-1" cable assembly for each cable type in the product range. Based on swept frequency measurements, the minimum margins of PSANEXT and PSAELFEXT between 1MHz to 500MHz were compared to the draft standards.

Innovative features of the GigaSPEED X10D Solution include a new cable design based on a traditional round shape that has been developed using patent pending technology. Coupled with this is new, patent pending, connector technology that follows similar termination as the previous generations. The GigaSPEED X10D Solution is available in the market today as a complete solution, provided with published guaranteed channel performance up to a full 100m, four-connector channel and is backed by a 20-year extended warranty and applications assurance.
