Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can increase their productivity - by up to 70% according to some studies - by implementing a unified messaging system.
Research has shown that office-bound employees are 50% more productive when using a unified messaging system which includes e-mail, fax, and voice messaging while access to unified messaging can increase the productivity of on-the-move entrepreneurs and employees by up to 70%.
But unified message has been beyond the reach of all but the most cash-flush SME.
This will change following the release in South Africa of Ericsson OneBox, a state-of-the-art unified messaging application which gives users access to their messages - anytime, anywhere.
Rob Browne, Ericsson business development manager at Dimension Data Interactive Communications says that with OneBox, all voice, fax, and e-mail messages are available by fixed or mobile phone, and at the computer desktop or any other Web device.
"This instant accessibility leads to greater productivity, giving SME`s a vital competitive edge. The solution is particularly useful for individuals for whom work is an activity rather than a location, he adds.
OneBox unified messaging is based on Ericsson OneBox Voice, a voice mail system which enables users to edit, record, reply, forward and send voice mail messages. OneBox voice contains such advanced features such as automated attendant, plug and play installation, and runs on the Microsoft Windows NT Workstation operating system.
OneBox Voice also supports Short Message Service (SMS) integration, allowing subscribers to receive notification of messages on mobile telephones and pagers.
For fax functionality, SME`s can install OneBox Fax, a server-based technology that allows users to send and receive faxes directly from their computer desktop - either from their desktop PCs in the office or from their notebooks.
Together, OneBox Voice and OneBox Fax provide the foundation for the complete OneBox unified messaging solution.
"In addition to voice and fax mail functionality, OneBox users can take advantage of a choice of integration with Microsoft Exchange/Outlook or Lotus Notes, a choice between client- or server-based unified messaging, and an extremely easy to use, graphical, interface," Browne concludes.
