Local ICT Software Developer and Distributor, Unison Communications (Pty) Ltd, has successfully completed the installation of its Stella Nova telephone management system (TMS) on a Cisco Internet Protocol switch for Montecasino. This was the first fully completed installation of its kind in SA.
Montecasino found its old reporting system was delivering inaccurate reports, providing figures that differed by 5% to 8% from the actual bill. In order to gain more control over its telecommunication costs, Montecasino decided to implement an IP-based billing system.
Montecasino approached Dimension Data (DiData) to develop this billing system, which in turn approached Unison, selecting the voice processing TMS and fax server specialist, based on its experience and prior working relationship.
Manesh Moodley, a Montecasino IT network supervisor, says the company made the move to a voice-over-data solution to take advantage of extra features offered by current technologies. According to him, the results have so far been very positive.
The installation of the Cisco IP switch (done by DIData) took a mere two days, with the software deployment (handled by Unison) taking another two. In total, it took less than a week to install MonteCasino`s new billing system.
The reports generated by the system display all calls, incoming and outgoing, in an intuitive graphic format, detailing who called whom and for what cost, in an easily understandable way. These reports are then automatically e-mailed at scheduled times - usually daily - to the necessary parties, or can be accessed online.
Although the system is based on the latest voice-over-data technology, it is still compatible with Montecasino`s legacy systems and allows the company to manage both the IP switch and a traditional PABX switch.
"One of our biggest challenges," says Derek Morris, managing director of Unison, "was the design of a pre-processor, capable of taking the information from the Cisco IP switch and transforming it into a format we could use to generate our reports."
Morris added that with this pre-processor developed, the deployment time for other TMS Cisco IP switch installations will be greatly reduced.
