Local ICT software developer and distributor, Unison Communications (Pty) Ltd, has announced that it has seen favourable sales of its products in Africa. The company says that although it has been exporting software to African countries since 1987, accelerated sales have really actualised over the last two years.
Focusing on the development and deployment of telephone management, voice processing and fax server systems, the company says it has exported its software to over 13 countries on the African continent.
Craig Young, Unison`s head of sales and business development, says: "Exporting to Africa has never been a core focus of ours. With the latest advancements such as the New Programme for Africa`s Development (Nepad) and various other initiatives aimed at uplifting the economies of African countries, the company has changed its stance and is now officially formulating an African channel sales and business development arm."
The company states that it will adopt a two-tier approach to developing African exports. Firstly, it plans to solidify its position with local value-added resellers (VARs) who already have points of presence in Africa. Secondly, Unison plans to find dedicated IT and telecommunication VARs within the targeted countries.
With installations in Botswana, Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Kenya and all the way up to the Sudan, Unison says it has seen accelerated growth particularly in Angola and Mozambique.
Young continues: "Breaking into the African market is no mean task. Business development is prohibitive and hampered by the limited infrastructure and each country`s own set of laws and taxes, as well as the long paper trail of trying to get goods into Africa. With that said, we have experienced good organic growth in Africa and we have committed ourselves to now take a proactive approach with regards to business development in Africa."
The company states that it also has a number of installations in the Middle East region but will focus on exports to Africa in the interim.
