AmVia, the value-added distributor of Legato Systems e-mail software in SA, has announced its appointment of Unisys Africa as a Legato business partner. The appointment opens the door for Unisys to sell Legato`s specialist archiving solutions and gives it access to AmVia`s extensive Legato product support infrastructure.
According to John Jordaan, Storage Solutions Program Representative of Unisys Africa, Legato`s EmailXtender and DiskXtender solutions are integral components of Unisys Africa`s robust end-to-end solution that specifically addresses e-mail record integrity and long-term retention, to achieve the compliance, management and archival requirements of enterprise messaging clients.
The Unisys solution provides for the definition of e-mail rules and accompanying e-mail and electronic communications policies, the automated classification of e-mail in terms of the organisation`s defined rules and policies, and the determination of applicable retention periods, as required by law or for business purposes. Moreover, to ensure e-mail record integrity, globally unique digital fingerprints of individual records are generated for retention in the tamperproof online electronic archive.
In developing the architecture of the component hardware and software products, and integrating the expertise needed to provide this total e-mail archiving solution, Unisys leveraged the strengths of its strategic partners EMC, Microsoft, AmVia, Legato and Metrofile. The company adopted a multi-disciplinary approach to crafting the solution and responded to the requirement of absolute record integrity by applying the skill of recognised experts in the fields of IT law, policy and rules development as well as expert record management skills, in which instance it partnered with MetroFile. In respect of the hardware platform and software infrastructure, Unisys partnered with EMC and AmVia.
