Access360, a global provider of user access management solutions, has appointed Unisys Africa as a member of its Fusion360 Partner Programme.
This extends the global relationship between Unisys and Access360 to the African market, giving local customers access to a business solution that automates the process of granting applications access rights to contractors, business partners and employees.
Mark Edge, Access360 VP for northern Europe, says managing user access rights across a plethora of systems, databases and applications is a major headache for IT departments in most large organisations.
He estimates that between 30% and 50% of all support calls to helpdesks are related to access rights problems, such as lost or forgotten passwords.
Factors such as extensive use of contractors, mergers and acquisitions, high headcount growth, and staff turnover rates of up to 30% have made user access management an even more daunting task for most large companies.
"In the past, organisations have relied on unwieldy paper-based systems to manage user systems and application access rights. This is time-consuming and opens up the business to security risks, as it can take weeks after an employee leaves the company to cancel his access rights," says Edge.
"In addition, companies have the added burden of managing external users, such as customers and suppliers, as they implement consumer Web sites, supply chain management and business-to-business e-commerce. By automating the user access rights management process, companies can improve efficiency, tighten up security, and boost productivity."
Marius Krige, e-business director at Unisys Africa, says the Access360 product fills the gap in Unisys Africa`s security portfolio for a user access management solution.
"The product gives customers a business process and a system for managing fluctuating user populations, a major concern of our customers as they implement e-business systems. It can be implemented rapidly and deliver a return on investment in 10 to 15 months," he adds.
The core Access360 offering, enRole, features agents that connect users to over 70 platforms, including operating systems, databases, vertical applications, e-mailing systems and other security products. enRole facilitates user access for a wide range of business resources to all authorised users from a single point of administration.
enRole provides a number of security features to ensure that access rights remain restricted to current authorised users, both inside and outside the organisation. The product automates access administration and password management based on established business policies, and synchronises information in its access rights repository with human resources systems.
This allows organisations to get employees up and running on new systems faster, and frees up the time managers and IT staff have spent on managing the processes related to user access management.
