Launched in conjunction with Unisys University, the Unisys worldwide Educational and professional development organisation, this new lab is equipped with the latest Cisco networking technology, and provides an ideal environment for the training, certification and ongoing professional development of internetworking experts.
The Technical Readiness Lab is located adjacent to the Unisys NetWORKS Command Center and is available for interoperability testing by Unisys engineers on behalf of Unisys clients.
Through the Lab, Unisys network engineers will gain access to training and testing facilities to earn important technical certifications including the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), and the new Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP). Unisys today announced that 20 CCIE courses have been added to the curriculum of Unisys University for these certification programs.
``The relationship between Cisco and Unisys is typical of the types of collaborations we will create through the University,`` noted George Dunne, vice president of Unisys University. ``These partners allow us to offer the best curriculum through those best able to provide the training.``
CCIE certification programs require one of the most rigorous internetworking experience in the industry - and include in-depth written and hands-on laboratory evaluations. Because of this thorough and exhaustive certification process, CCIEs are recognised throughout the industry as being exceptionally qualified technical professionals.
Customers benefit by being able to more effectively deploy and manage reliable, high-performance networks. Service organisations such as Unisys are able to reduce the overall cost of ownership through accelerated network design, integration, deployment, and management services.
``The challenges of implementing and supporting today`s network environments reflect the nature of the technology - dynamic, evolving, and increasingly complex,`` said David Saunders, vice president, Worldwide Desktop Services, Unisys Global Customer Services. ``As organisations demand more from their networks, the networks require ever-increasing levels of technical expertise.
Through our Global Support Partnership with Cisco, Unisys has committed to increasing the number of CCIEs in our service delivery organisation. This new facility provides an environment where Unisys network engineers can hone their technical expertise, earn key certifications through Unisys University and, most importantly, provide customers with the advanced skills required to implement and service networks for optimal performance and reliability. The establishment of this Lab is further validation of the strength of the relationship between Unisys and Cisco, and we are most grateful for Cisco`s donation of the equipment for the facility.``
"The Unisys Technical Readiness Lab will provide the extensive hands-on training in simulating, testing and managing the network that is required to deploy the network in the New World of data/voice/video convergence,`` said Tom Stevenson, vice president of Worldwide Channels, Cisco Systems.
"Cisco`s collaboration with Unisys reflects our commitment to providing customers with a pool of highly-trained internetworking experts who understand the strategic business value of `the network` and have the expertise to meet their needs.``
As a Cisco Global Support Partner, Unisys has proven its comprehensive capabilities in delivering Cisco network integration and product support services worldwide. At the recent Cisco Partner Summit, Unisys was named Cisco`s Global Systems Integration Partner of the Year (Fiscal Year 1998).
