US-based General Services Administration Federal Technology Service (GSA FTS) has awarded Unisys a seven-year task order contract worth an estimated $36 million. The contract is a reflection of Unisys` leadership in systems integration.
The proposed Unisys solution will provide GSA FTS with a consolidated IT infrastructure, enabling a single view of its industry partners, customers and business operations. It will help the company reduce costs, improve customer satisfaction and enhance competitive advantage. The transformation capitalises on Unisys` expertise in providing integrated solutions to connect GSA FTS seamlessly with its customers and industry partners.
"This contract will help create opportunities for Unisys` local business as we will be able to leverage off our parent`s skills and experience," says Maphum Nxumalo, area sales director, public sector and telecommunications, Unisys Africa. "Unisys is looking forward to deploying its systems integration expertise to assist in the local e-government initiative."
GSA helps federal agencies better serve the public by offering - at best value - superior workplaces, expert solutions, acquisition services and management policies. This competitive, single-award task order through GSA`s Millennia indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract, provides for the complete lifecycle from design to development through operations, maintenance and system enhancements.
The task order is a business transformation and systems integration initiative to modernise GSA FTS systems using a commercial off-the-shelf solution that integrates national and regional programs with its vendors and customers through an Internet-enabled enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
The contract work will yield substantial improvement in project management, cash management, customer relationships and sales management. Through a unification portal, GSA FTS will connect its operations nationwide, allowing 30 000 users to leverage this new technology.
Unisys is the prime contractor for this business transformation contract. Partners are PWC Consulting, a global provider of management consulting and technology services; SAP; and TechFlow, a business that creates secure interactive and e-business solutions.
"The South African government`s plan to consolidation IT infrastructure and its move into ERP with SITA on board increases the opportunities for Unisys` integration skills in the local market," says Nxumalo. "Also, Unisys` well established relationship with top ERP players such as SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards, along with its expertise in technology procurement and a deep knowledge of how government works, qualifies it as the choice to consider when consolidating."
