Unisys Corporation has announced that it has signed a letter of intent to establish a network of application support centers supporting Intel Corporation`s Application Solution Center (ASC) Initiative. The initiative is aimed at assisting software developers to port and optimize applications for both the Intel IA-32 and IA-64 architectures. Initially, Unisys plans to implement Intel`s ASCs, by Q3, 1998, within its own Engineering Competency Centers located in Malvern, PA and Mission Viejo, CA. "This new initiative with Intel allows Unisys to optimise the IA-32 and IA-64 architectures into solutions which will enable our customers to run their businesses ever more competitively," said George Gazerwitz, President Unisys Computer Systems. "We are pleased to have Unisys join Intel in this strategic initiative. Our Application Solution Centers will enable the enterprise to glean performance advantages of both the IA-32 and IA-64 architectures at an accelerated pace. Kennedy School of Government has named Unisys Corporation, a worldwide supplier of information services and technology, as its newest corporate partner with the school`s program on Strategic Computing and Telecommunications in the Public Sector. Unisys becomes one of an exclusive list of eleven companies who work closely with this Harvard research and education program to help federal, state and local governments identify and implement information technology (IT) applications that are strategic or transformational in nature. Unisys wins services engagement from Norwest Financial Information Services Group At the Unisys Corporation annual investment community meeting held recently, Unisys Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer Lawrence A. Weinbach announced that Unisys has been awarded a long-term, multi-million dollar services contract from Norwest Financial Information Services Group (NFISG), a leading supplier of data processing services to the consumer finance industry. The two companies are working cooperatively to plan, architect, and integrate Sapphire, a system that will replace NFISG`s current technology infrastructure and will help its clients meet changing business demands. Sapphire will replace all of NFISG`s current system product offerings. Types of business to be supported by and accessed through Sapphire include both closed-ended and revolving lending for personal loans, mortgage and home equity loans, auto financing, private label credit cards, and sales finance processing. Sapphire, accessed through a Microsoft Windows NT user interface, will provide comprehensive support for originating, funding, servicing, and collecting accounts along with extensive management reporting and complete financial reporting capabilities. The new, cost-effective, operating environment will be capable of supporting either distributed or centralised operations or a combination of both. NFISG will begin to roll out the Sapphire system in 1999. Unisys `World of Solutions` unveils number of firsts at AIIM `98 Unisys leadership in document management solutions around the globe is the focus of this year`s AIIM presentation in Booth 351, "A World of Solutions." Unisys is taking off the wraps and demonstrating an Enterprise Management Console and a new 32-bit workstation suite. Along with these new and improved products, which are being shown publicly for the first time at AIIM `98, numerous solutions for the financial services and public sector arenas are being demonstrated. Also, first-time demonstrations are available that show the benefits of a fully integrated Unisys InfoImage and PC DOCS document management solution. Also premiering at AIIM`98 was a CD-ROM featuring Unisys document management solutions. The easy-to-navigate CD-ROM features Unisys clients and solutions from around the world in a seamless digital mix of still and video vignettes. Smithsonian Honors Unisys imaging clients two years running Unisys imaging/workflow solutions have been recognized for their technological innovation by the Smithsonian Institution two years in a row. This year, North Carolina, Department of State Treasurer`s Retirement System imaging system became part of the Smithsonian Institution`s Permanent Research Collection on Information Technology Innovation. In 1997, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (MDOR) was named the most innovative government agency by the Smithsonian for its image-based and telefiling tax processing system. In North Carolina, Unisys has designed and integrated an online database with digital images, allowing backup copies, higher accuracy and lower costs for the management of more than 4,000,000 documents. Replacing microfiche, the Retirement System imaging system managed an eight-fold increase in the number of documents. It has also improved response time to member requests, sped up refunds and benefits processing, and provided backup of member records.
