United Bank imposes risk management
West Africa-based United Bank for Africa has welcomed the move by Africa's central banks to impose stricter controls on commercial banks to ensure operational risks are well covered, says The East African.
The bank's CEO in charge of Kenyan operations, Manz Denga, says the risks facing the sector are significantly complex and therefore adequate reforms should be pursued to cushion the banks from risks that could be detrimental to them.
In what could spur the bank's expansion strategy on the continent, Denga says the United Bank for Africa is well capitalised and has put in place strong risk management strategies to mitigate any arising risks.

Data loss prevention goes mainstream
According to a study by Nemertes Research, data loss prevention (DLP) systems are gradually entering the mainstream, reports Computerworld.
Nemertes Research says compliance is driving spending and security decisions in more than 75% of larger companies and especially in the financial sector.
However, Nemertes points out that even in these industries, adoption is not uniform as small companies (less than $500 million in revenue), are not yet implementing DLP solutions. Nemertes predicts smaller enterprises will start deploying DLP in 2010 to 2011.
