UnitedLinux for download

UnitedLinux, the alliance formed earlier this year by SCO, Connectiva, SuSE and Turbolinux, says the first public beta release of its Linux will be available on 23 September for download. UnitedLinux is a standards-based Linux operating system targeted at the business user, the result of an industry initiative to streamline Linux development and certification around a global, uniform distribution of Linux. UnitedLinux will be compliant with existing Linux standards such as Linux Standard Base (LSB) and Li18nux.

Motorola phone plan leaked on

Mobile phone manufacturer Motorola has found that a preliminary plan for the phones it expects to launch next year has been leaked onto the Internet, reports Reuters. Motorola spokesman Alan Buddendeck said that while someone had gotten hold of the plan that included images of the phones, it was an older version. The plan, posted by a member of online mobile phone discussion Web site Howard Forums, shows that Motorola is planning to introduce phones with additional multimedia features. These features include musical ring-tones, photo downloading capabilities and high-resolution colour screens. Buddendeck said the company`s is investigating how and where the leak could have happened. He declined to comment on specific phone models for next year, citing competitive reasons.

New Lindows hits the market

The LindowsOS 2.0 Linux-based operating system has been made available. The new version features a new graphical user interface and has a built-in scan feature that is designed to find all the available printers on a corporate network. Users will also be able to configure wireless cards in the new upgrade. This new version sets the scene for the general release of LindowsOS 3.0 that is expected to be available for download by the end of the year.
