University, KTC provide skills
A number of multinational software vendors are partnering with local learning institutions to offer ICT skills to local professionals and students, says AllAfrica.com.
Last week, Kenyatta University and the Knowledge Transfer Centre (KTC) introduced their partnership with the vendors. They target a pool of highly trained IT professionals.
ICT companies will benefit from the training of international standards, which will save them the cost of sending staff for training abroad. The KTC will access the upmarket training programmes by Sun Microsystems, Cisco, Oracle, Tibco and Checkpoint.
Minister recommends Web
According to AllAfrica.com, the Web content market offers a great opportunity for Kenyans to make money, a government official has said.
The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication, Dr Bitange Ndemo, said with the laying of fibre-optic cable nearing completion, there is a need to generate Web content for the enormous bandwidth that will be in place early next year.
Ndemo said the government is spending billions to create the infrastructure and, therefore, the private sector has to take advantage of the available opportunity to generate income.
