Sybase SA has announced the latest releases of its enterprise data integration solution, Enterprise Connect Data Access 12.5 and Mainframe Connect 12.5, offering transparent access to heterogeneous databases. The new versions provide support for the evolving needs of e-business across the enterprise (client/server and mainframe), including XML and Java, enhanced security and Unicode.
"Customers are looking to solution providers who focus on business needs rather than proprietary architecture," says Sybase SA marketing manager, Julie Tomlinson. "Sybase's data integration solution lets customers leverage their existing technology without having to rebuild entire systems because Enterprise Connect Data Access and Mainframe Connect manage and integrate various independent data sources."
Enterprise Connect Data Access 12.5 provides the ability to parse and query XML (extensible mark-up language) data across the enterprise, including retrieving and extending data to foreign databases such as Oracle 9i and Microsoft SQL Server.
In addition, enhanced security with row-level access control and encrypted communications using SSL (secure sockets layer) protocol protects a company's critical customer data. The row-level access control security feature runs across the enterprise, regardless of the database, even if that particular database does not support row-level security.
"For successful implementation of data access solutions in the e-business environment, integration with multiple data sources and development languages such as Java and XML is essential," adds Tomlinson.
Enterprise Connect Data Access provides the fundamental building blocks for connectivity between LAN-based clients and enterprise data sources including Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, Oracle9i, DB2 UDB, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, IMS, ODBC- and DRDA-compliant sources.
It enables customers to integrate and transform heterogeneous and distributed data into easily accessible information by providing data integration capabilities and a modular architecture for flexibility, manageability and high performance.
New features in Enterprise Connect Data Access 12.5 include:
. Distributed transaction management and full two-phase commit for Oracle and ASE databases in any combination.
. SMP support for Oracle data access.
. Lightweight directory access protocol for Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise and Oracle data access.
. Large object binaries enabling retrieval and replication of extremely large portions of data in binary and character format on Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
. Support column data and row data sizes up to the maximum allowed for each targeted database.
. Support for Oracle Unicode data types.
. Updated mainframe SNA connectivity support on the Sun platform, which now supports Sun's newer SNA add-on, SNAP-IX.
. Support for DB2 UDB on NT and UNIX Mainframe Connect 12.5 enables users to get high-performance access to mainframe data such as UDB for OS/390 and VSAM, as well as access to online production applications running in IBM OS/390 environments, including CICS Transaction Server and IMS/TM.
