The strategic importance of protecting corporate data centres is underlined by continuing strong demand for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and solutions.
Square One Power Solutions, the UPS specialist in the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, has won another five major contracts to design and install UPS systems for leading companies.
The contracts are a 120kW system for the data centre at the new Tiger Brands corporate headquarters, a 160kW and 40kW system for the Bowman Gilfillan legal practice head office and a 240kW system for Sun International, all based in Sandton. Two contracts for 60kw units have also been received for Rustenburg Municipality and Rustenburg Hospital.
Total power capacity of the systems is 680kW at a value of more than R1 million. They are all based upon APC Silcon UPS equipment that offers three-phase online power protection and ensures high security of power supply. Square One Power is an APC Hi-Power Partner.
"The output design caters for modern downstream loads and conforms to new standards that require such loads to be power factor (PF) corrected," says Square One Power Solutions managing director Neill Schreiber.
"APC Silcon units function over wide voltage and frequency ranges. They are compact, small footprint products that have unity input PF and work at 95% efficiency with less than 5% input harmonic distortion. The units handle crest factors of up to 10 to 1 as well as overloads of 200%. Due to the inherent high specification, the units are diesel generator set-friendly and exceptionally cost-efficient."
