UPS! Who needs one?

Uninterruptible power supply is an item for all seasons, cuts or no cuts, warns Frontier Electronics.

Johannesburg, 25 Jan 2008

You may be one of the many who, in search of a UPS, braved the traffic rendered chaotic by power outages - only to be confronted with empty shelves at the destination point.

If so, we sympathise.

But, at the risk of adding insult to injury, we have to ask: why did you wait so long? As a savvy computer user, you should have known by now that a UPS is a necessary part of your set-up, even in the conditions of reasonably stable supply of electricity.

Why? Well, to put it simply, because you never know when someone is going to trip over that cable and yank it our of the wall plug outlet. Power disturbances are not unusual even in ideal conditions. Plus, there are often fluctuations in power surges that can damage your precious hardware.

A UPS device is there to take your system smoothly over the rough patches, to allow you to work through brief disturbances, or to safely shut down your system during prolonged cuts. That is why you always - let us repeat that: always - need one.

Frontier Electronics has a range of low-cost UPS solutions for homes, home office, and small business.
