US Air Force undergoes HR shift

The US Air Force Personnel Centre will transfer nearly its entire resources-related information technology duties over to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and will act as a customer, as opposed to owner of the human resources (HR) system, writes Human Resource Journal.

“Someone else develops the hardware and software and hosts the system. We are just a customer using the service,” said Robert Berger, the deputy director of Personnel Data Systems at Air Force Personnel Centre.

Berger also noted that DISA provided greater redundancy than did the Air Force's prior disaster recovery plan. “If, God forbid, disaster strikes at one DISA centre, we would redirect work through another with little disruption for users. Before, we were really rolling the dice.”
