Ohio-based Kentrox has opened an office in SA and expanded its presence in Africa.

Kentrox provides site monitoring, management, and control solutions that enable service providers to reduce and operating costs, and improve network performance.

The company has been providing solutions to African operators for more than 12 years, but this morning launched a South African office.

John Ryan, Kentrox's executive VP of sales and marketing, says: “Establishing our new office in Johannesburg enables us to better help service providers, while they are rapidly expanding their networks, and to provide assistance in managing their current sites.”

Ryan adds: “After many years of working with African service providers from abroad, we look forward to the opportunity and expansion into Africa, and more direct involvement with our business and customers.”

The company has appointed Richard Hayter as MD of the local office. Hayter, originally from Zimbabwe, spent the last four years at Performance Technologies, where he was involved in global market development to grow and wireless accounts in Africa.

Before that, he worked for nearly 10 years at Tekelec in various roles in product management, business systems, and market development. He is currently based in Johannesburg.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome the experience of Hayter to Kentrox to coincide with the Kentrox direct presence in Africa,” says Ryan.

The Johannesburg office will provide products, services, project management and training to service providers nationwide.

In addition to the Johannesburg office, Kentrox also has offices in the US, Australia, and a network of global partnerships.

The US company says the “African telecommunications market has been growing rapidly over the last several years and is continuing its growth”.

Mobile phones account for more than 90% of phone lines in Africa, says Kentrox. Its services are geared at expanding networks, especially in remote or hard-to-reach locations.
