US manufacturers call for R&D funding
US manufacturers have said they would ask the government to set up a $2 billion research and development scheme to improve the industry's competitiveness and promote a sustainable employment base, according to Forbes.
Industry officials told reporters they would push to have the public-private partnership programme included in the Energy Bill, noting that the European Union had already allocated about $2 billion to encourage its manufacturers to invest in energy efficiency and boost productivity.
They would also ask the US government to expand tax credits to apply to investments in advanced technologies and double funding for manufacturing innovation.
Siemens to demo PLM software
Siemens will exhibit a combination of product life cycle management (PLM) software and production systems and equipment at EMO Milano - a trade fair for the production of machine tools, systems, and automation products, held from 5 to 10 October in Italy, states Reuters.
The combined solution will be presented by Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a provider of PLM software and services, and Siemens Drive Technologies Division, supplier of products and services for production machinery and machine tools.
The software portfolio of the Siemens PLM software presentation at this year's EMO focuses on the workpiece-oriented process chain between the initial idea for the product and the finished piece.
