US nuclear agency network falls short

An internal investigation at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in the US blames network delays and cost overruns on poor planning and project management, reports InformationWeek.

The enterprise secure network, planned as a secure replacement to NNSA's outdated SecureNet, is operational; however, the network isn't powerful enough to connect all of NNSA's supercomputers and classified systems.

The delays and cost overruns stem largely from poor project planning and management. The project management controls the agency used were designed for projects one-seventh the cost of the new $180 million network.

Project management guide now on Kindle

The Project Management Institute (PMI) has released the fourth edition of 'A guide to the project management body of knowledge' (PMBOK) on the Amazon's Kindle device, says Melodika.net.

This internationally recognised standard gives project managers the essential tools to practice project management and deliver organisational results.

Mark Langley, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of PMI, says: “Placing the guide on the Kindle supports our tradition of excellence in project management by leveraging the latest in technological enhancements.”
